This is a super easy pizza recipe that takes about 15 minutes to prepare - the same time as a frozen pizza but WITHOUT all the nasty preservatives!

Here’s a super simple pizza recipe that you can knock up as dinner for the whole family in less than 15 minutes. That’s the same time it takes to prep a frozen pizza, but this doesn’t contain any of the nasty preservatives and random ingredients most frozen, boxed foods contain. For this reason, wholegrain or wholemeal pita bread is a staple on my grocery shopping list, and there always tomato paste in our pantry. I buy it in the two-tablespoon sachets for times I’m only making a small batches (e.g. for Mr 4’s school lunch) or I use the little tubs when I’m making pizza for the whole family.

This is also just an easy, fun recipe that the kids can get involved in with minimal supervision (the messiest they’ll get is when they’re spreading the tomato paste) – that way they can choose what toppings go on their own pizza.

I’ve prepped 2 mini pizzas the night before school and Mr 4 will eat it happily for lunch the next day, or I’ll make 2-3 of these for dinner for the family (hubby can easily eat 1 – 1.5 of these on his own), teamed with salad or fresh veggies, when I’m in a pinch.

Easy-peasy Pizza for Kids

A super simple pizza recipe for school lunch boxes, snacks or a main meal for a whole family. Get the kids involved and invite them to make their own pizzas.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4-8 pieces wholegrain or wholemeal pita / flat bread (1 piece = 1 base for each pizza). Use mini pita breads for the perfect kid-sized pizza.
  • 1-2 tbsp salt-reduced tomato paste per large pizza (use half or quarter the amount for mini pita breads)
  • Grated tasty cheese or grated Dairy-free Bio-Cheese for anyone with dairy allergies
  • Your choice of pizza toppings (spinach, mushrooms, capsicum, pepperoni, ham, roast chicken are some of our family favourites)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C
  • Line a baking tray with baking paper
  • Spread 1-2 tablespoons of salt-reduced tomato paste over your pita bread (kids love to "paint" this on using the back of a spoon or a pastry/basting brush)
  • Sprinkle grated cheese evenly on top of the cheese
  • Sprinkle your pizza toppings on top
  • Top with extra cheese (optional)
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes or until cheese is melted

I’m not even going to pretend that I’ve made pizza dough from scratch – if you’re interested in that and have time up your sleeve, then check out Jamie Oliver’s recipe.
