Lush Ultrabland – The best facial cleanser of all time? | Review

28 February, 2014 By Joy Adan Tagged With: product review 1 Comment

Ok, confession: I’ve had this post in my head since about December. But the fact that I’m still keen to write it almost three months on just goes to show how amazing the product that I’m about to share with you really is.

I have a bit of a love affair with a certain cosmetic brand and I just can’t keep it under wraps anymore. I find the company itself – what they do and stand for, and the people that work for them – pretty amazing, but that wouldn’t count for much if their products weren’t amazeballs. And their products are, in all seriousness, amazeballs.

That company is Lush Cosmetics. And I love them because in December 2013 they introduced me to this little tub of perfection:

Ultrabland face cleanser, by Lush Cosmetics

I first came across it while finishing off the last of my Christmas shopping in December last year. I was on the hunt for a new cleanser that wasn’t going to break the bank. For the two years prior I was a dedicated Clinique gal, but I was sick of spending ludicrous amounts for a bottle of gel cleanser that always got watery and useless at about the 3-month mark and didn’t do all that much for getting off my eye make up.

Then I met Sarah.

I wandered over to the Lush pop-up store in Westfield, Parramatta and there Sarah was; all smiles and enthusiasm and asked if I needed a hand trying some of their products. I had a pram overloaded with Christmas gifts and Ukulele Baby had just fallen asleep so I thought, “Sure, why not?” Sarah’s love for Lush was contagious. Usually I’m pretty cynical about sales reps… but she asked me what I was after and knew her products like they were members of her family. After one demonstration of Ultrabland on the back of my hand, I was head over heels and won over.

Fast forward a few months later and Ultrabland is now the staple cosmetic item on my bathroom sink. It actually makes me want to wash my face at night. You have no idea what a big deal this is. I was a serial skipper of The Night Facial Cleanse. And everyone knows that’s a cardinal sin when it comes to skincare. But Ultrabland changed that. It removes all my makeup and even if I forget or don’t have time to put on toner or moisturiser, my face feels light, supple and clean – not tight and dry.

Did I mentioned it works? I scrape a small amount onto my finger, massage it all over my face and eyes, then use a face cloth dampened with warm water to wipe it all off. It even passed my White Wash Cloth Test after just one go. That is, I use Ultrabland to clean my face, then wipe my face again with a white wash cloth and if there’s any sign of foundation or mascara left, the product is pretty much dead to me. But not Ultrabland. Nope… Ultrabland is my (face’s) new best friend.

The best part is, all the ingredients are 100% natural. There is absolutely NONE of the random chemical crap that’s in the products one would normally pay top dollar for.

I fell so head over heels in love with this facial cleanser that shortly afterwards I went back, and bought some toner and moisturiser so that my skin care range was complete.

Or so I thought.

Over the  past few months my Lush collection has grown… and grown… Ahhhh I can’t wait to share all the awesomeness with you! But that’s a post for another day. Til then, if you’re looking for something au naturale that you can use to clean your face, give Ultrabland a try.

Feeling really weary today. Not sure if it's just Feeling really weary today. Not sure if it's just the virus lingering (I've been coughing through March 🥴), playing nurse to a brave little boy with a broken (but healing) elbow, hormones, or just a head clouded with all that's happening around the country and around the world and the fact women have to fight so hard to exist - let alone thrive - in a world that seems hell bent on destroying us.

So here's a photo of nice things that make me happy. Full bookshelves, coffee cups, and plants... things that remind me that if we are open to learning, conversation, and blooming amongst even the shittiest of shit, we can still flourish. ❤
A reminder for anyone who needs to hear/read this A reminder for anyone who needs to hear/read this today. I've been so inspired, so honoured to experience the strength of the women who are at the @wearethemainstream's event today. It seems our strength is often forged and fortified through pain... but to be able to share it, to bear it together, to transform it and alchemise it... to turn into a sisterhood that rebuilds this world.

Throwback to a year ago... The perfectly timed hol Throwback to a year ago... The perfectly timed holiday that ended days before the words “global pandemic” became a regular part of my vocabulary. I've been on the weirdest roller coaster ride of a year since this photo was taken. Even the past few weeks have seen so many highs and lows. What is this craziness? And where is the pause button?

Today, we celebrate the women of the world. I th Today, we celebrate the women of the world.

I think of my mother and my sisters - the women who have always inspired and encouraged me to up my game. To be respectful of self so I am fully able to respect others. To be unapologetic in my faith and my fight for the underdog. The women who have shown me time and time again that heroines are forged in the fire of love.

I think of the women in my life who are a beacon of strength, hope, compassion, charity, healing, life, power, humility, leadership and service. The dear friends, teachers, mentors, bosses and colleagues who have paved their own path and helped me lay my own. The world needs more of you. I hope to be one of you.

And for the women in the world who need healing (who, let's face it, is all of us at some point or another). I celebrate you today. Your brokenness can be a beacon too. The world needs WHO you are: cracks, fears, mistakes, insecurities and all. Because deep beneath those cracks, fears, mistakes and insecurities lie desire, dreams, redemption and a hope that there is better out there.

We will create better, together.

It doesn't matter how old I get, it doesn't hurt t It doesn't matter how old I get, it doesn't hurt to be reminded... 😜

Image: A quote from the Dr Seuss book “Oh, the Places You'll Go!” hand-lettered in rainbow watercolour ink. The text reads “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”
Had one of those “pinch me, I must be dreaming” moments today. I finally opened this book set from @philipjamolin & @simmyyyy and Mr Z asked me to read him the one about Maya Angelou. Then Mr 8 joined us and read his little bro the other two books. 🥰

These books remind me of the ones I used to read in primary school. There was a collection of illustrated books about different historical figures in our school library and I was obsessed with them! That's where I first discovered Helen Keller and a bunch of other inspiring, everyday heroes. Now... to collect the rest!
