Update: This competition is now closed. Congratulations to our winners Michelle and Tree!
One of the first full sentences Mr 2 ever said was, “I want some bacon.”
Seriously.
So a healthier deli meat option for a parent who has to pack a meal almost every where we go – but has limited options, thanks for Mr 2’s dairy allergy – makes me happy. I pack cold meats in my toddler’s lunchbox so the Oliving by Hans range – a healthier deli meat option that replaces saturated fat with olive oil – was a great find.
The Oliving by Hans cold meats are inspired by the Mediterranean diet and combines lean meat with the goodness of olive oil. It’s the first of it’s kind for Australia, and my experience cooking with it has been deliciously impressive (sorry… had to put a pun in somewhere).
Last Tuesday the folks at Marmot Inc hosted a very swish event where they put a bunch of loud, hungry bloggers into a room and paired Oliving by Hans inspired dishes with cocktails mixed by an uber-trendy, purple-haired bartender.
To give you an idea of the level of swish and deliciousness this event provided, here’s a video (I am found stuffing my face with honey mustard and frankfurts at around the 1 minute mark)
The verdict? Yum.
Anyone who knows me knows I love food. I love it more when it’s healthy and delicious. And I absolutely adore it when someone else is cooking it just so I can eat it. I parked myself right in front of Jason, the master chef behind The Simple Cooking Channel, and started eating almost immediately. And I didn’t stop eating until they kicked us out of Shirt Bar. Thankfully they ‘kicked us out’ with a bag full of Oliving by Hans goodies that I could share with the husband and Mr 2, and a couple of $60 Coles vouchers so you readers can enjoy a feast of your own.
Why cook with Oliving by Hans?
Oliving by Hans is the first brand in Australia to reduce the saturated fats in cold meats (a staple in many households) by replacing it with Greek olive oil; a ‘good’ fat. The result is meant to be a healthier deli meat that’s lower in naughty fat than your average frankfurt or traditional slice of bacon. It’s still high in salt for a toddler, so while I don’t plan to use this too often, it’s a great option for a quick meal or for a packed lunch. The flavour’s still there (just ask the husband, who tore into Cheesy Kransky two evenings in a row without me needing to prompt him to prepare dinner).
We’ve spent a week shallow frying kransky in olive oil and serving it with steamed veggies, making a smokey chorizo & chicken pasta sauce, and adding sliced polish salami to sandwiches and salad.
Next on the menu is creamy carbonara pasta, bacon and egg rolls and Canadian pancakes – all of which feature Oliving by Hans bacon.
Hungry yet?
Sorry.
