It’s been an awesome year of blogging, and I’m so excited to be in the running this year. Looking back now, building this blog has been such a great experience. Here’s why:
- It’s mine
It’s great having a side project that’s just for me. Most of my waking hours are spent doing things for other people – my son, husband, employer – so it’s nice to just zone out every now and again and spend time doing something that’s just mine to enjoy. This blog has been a personal outlet; both a venting and creative space where I can unleash whatever’s on my mind. Mums can so easily to get caught up in being strong and present for everyone else… but I’m learning that it’s just as important to recharge and do things for yourself every now and again. - It’s yours
It totally makes my day when my lovely readers email me personally or stop me at a get together or at work to thank me for something I’ve posted or for a Tweet / post / photo that’s made them laugh, smile or given them a boost of confidence. I’ve always enjoyed writing and learning, but I especially enjoy sharing what I’ve learned and finding out that piece of knowledge or insight has made someone else’s life that little bit easier or brighter. - It’s ours
I can’t get over just how supportive and wonderful the blogging community is – especially the mummy bloggers! In other environments I’ve found women (and men) tearing each other down because of weird self-esteem issues and/or competitiveness, but it’s so lovely having the support of other writers and parents who are in similar boats, acting as a support team and cheer squad for what sometimes feels like a futile blogging dream.
Thanks to all those who swing by this blog and remind me that this little writing space is well worth the time and effort I’m putting in. You guys are awesome, and your support has been awesome on this crazy little journey called motherhood.
